Cancer Care

Steiner Health Cancer Care provides resources for cancer patients at all stages, from new diagnosis through post-treatment recovery. We emphasize complementary anthroposophical approaches alongside conventional medical care, supporting patients in making informed decisions about their treatment.

We recommend our Life Force Intensive Session for newly diagnosed patients. This two-week retreat provides time to consider options before proceeding with treatment, in a supportive therapeutic environment.

Our Approach to Cancer Treatment

Our treatment protocol integrates anthroposophical medicine with conventional care. Components include:

  • Mistletoe therapy (Viscum Album) – subcutaneous injections prescribed and supervised by our physicians. Learn more about mistletoe therapy.
  • High-dose Vitamin C – following the University of Kansas Integrative Medicine protocol
  • Overwarming / fever bath therapy – therapeutic baths to stimulate the body’s immune response
  • Liver compresses – for detoxification support
  • Anthroposophic medicines – including Hepatodoron, Formica, and Stibium
  • Vegetarian diet and supervised fasting
  • Physical activity and social engagement
  • Therapeutic eurythmy and artistic therapy
  • Bowel cleansing
  • Conventional treatments (chemotherapy, radiation) – coordinated with outside providers when indicated

Mistletoe Therapy

Viscum Album (mistletoe extract) is the most widely studied complementary cancer therapy in Europe, where 40 percent of French and up to 60 percent of German cancer patients receive this botanical extract.

A landmark study followed 35,000 Heidelberg residents over 30 years. Among 600 matched-pair cancer patients, those combining mistletoe with conventional treatment lived 40% longer than those receiving conventional treatment alone (Grossarth-Maticek et al., 2001).

Reported clinical effects include:

  • Reduced side effects from chemotherapy and radiotherapy
  • Improved DNA repair in normal cells
  • Enhanced infection resistance
  • Improved sleep quality
  • Decreased pain
  • Increased life vitality and motivation

Viscum Album is administered via small subcutaneous injections, typically every other day or on a Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule. Temperature monitoring tracks treatment effects.

Important: Mistletoe treatment must only be prescribed and supervised by an experienced anthroposophic physician.
